Du roman au film (3)

Voici comment est racontée la première rencontre de Philippe avec Senta dans le roman :

- 'Are you Philip? Are you Fee's brother?'
- 'That's right.' He hesitated. 'I'm got up in all this gear because I'm giving her away.'
She said, speaking very precisely as if someone were writing her name down,
- 'Senta Pelham.'
- 'I've never met anyone called Senta before. It sounds foreign.'
Her voice took on a cool edge.
- 'Senta is the name of the girl in The Flying Dutchman.'
Philip wasn't sure what or who the Flying Dutchman was - something musical, an opera? - and he was glad of Christine's voice urgently calling his name,
- 'Philip, Philip, where are you?'
- 'Excuse me.'
She said nothing. He was unused to people who looked you straight in the eye without smiling.

Et voici le dialogue du film correspondant :

Senta : Vous êtes Philippe, le frère de Sophie ?
Philippe : Oui, absolument.
Senta : Je suis Senta Belange.
Philippe : Enchanté.
Sophie : Senta ! Tu pourrais pas venir une seconde, s'il te plaît ?
Senta : J'arrive. À tout à l'heure.
Philippe : Ouais, à tout à l'heure.

Je préfère dire que je suis acteur

That first evening, having looked wonderingly at the room, shocked by it and therefore feeling unsure of himself, he had asked her what she did.
'I'm an actor.'
'You mean an actress.'
'No, I don't, Philip. You wouldn't talk about a doctoress or a lawyeress, would you?'
He conceded that.

Dans le film, ces deux dialogues sont condensés en un seul.

Philippe : Senta, c’est ton vrai prénom ?
Senta : Oui, c’est le nom de l’héroïne du Vaisseau fantôme. Tu connais ?
Philippe : Non.
Senta : Tu devrais, c’est beau. C’est un rôle que j’ai travaillé pour une audition mais ça n’a pas marché. Dommage.
Philippe : Tu es comédienne ?

Senta : Je préfère dire que je suis acteur.
Philippe : Tu veux dire actrice ?
Senta : Non, acteur. On dit pas chirurgienne ou jugesse. C’est ridicule, actrice.

Very interesting indeed ! (le roman et le film, 2)

Ca y est, j'ai reçu The Bridesmaid ce matin, 1er mai. Il a mis à peine 2 semaines pour venir des États-Unis. La très charmante postière de mon quartier me l'a livré à domicile (le livre est gros et n'entrait pas dans ma boîte). "C'est la fille qui travaille à la poste !" s'exclame (dans le film) Patricia. Je me suis souvenu de cette réplique mais je ne veux pas imaginer qu'il puisse arriver à ma postière si mimi la même chose que ce qui arrive dans le film à Raphaëlle Pelisssier - qui s'appelle Rebecca Neave dans le roman.
La comparaison entre le roman et le film est très très interessante.
